4x4 trails in california with gold

I am looking for an easy 4x4 trail that leads to a river or lake that you can camp at without a campsite and do some gold panning and fishing

Be careful to make sure you are not on someones claim as many are hidden in the hills and out of the way. If you are interested in an area check with BLM and see if areas are claimed up. Claim jumpers may be shot! If you notice the Loco weed, get out fast!!

I, have a tendency to shoot back. It is not in any way legal to even "scare someone off" by shooting in their direction. (Not to say it doesn't happen). If you have a legitimate claim it should be well marked. And if you find yourself confronting an angry claim owner just be civil and explain yourself offer to reimburse or turn over your findings. Claim owners are not permitted to restrict hikers or general public from the land unless it is a patented claim.
