Had a good 4th of July weekend. Was able to get out and do some hunting in NW Illinois.

Day 1:
First I took my E-trac out to my folks farm for the first time. I hit it pretty hard going over many of the spots I had hit previously with my Ace, but it seems the Ace picked up most of the finds. I was able to find some modern clad and a tootsie toy though. Bugs were nasty!

Day 2:
Took the CZ-21 out to a nearby lake in the morning and did some beach hunting (no scuba). Ended up with a few bucks clad and that was all.

Day 3:
Went to a neighboring town driving around trying to find places to detect. Finally got the balls to knock on a door. The homeowners were more than happy to let me detect their yard, they even recommended that I detect a property her brother just bought. I headed up there after only finding clad. Only keeper at her brother's old house was a '44 Merc. I was hoping for more old finds because the house was said to be an older home, but I'll take that any day over a skunk.

Day 4:
Hit up a park that I've never really had the desire to ever hunt before. Just wasn't having much luck and the bugs were driving me crazy. I ended up going to a spot that usually provides me something. Today would be no different. Hit a Wheatie about 9" down after about 10 minutes. So I continued on and got a mixed 12-47/12-40 reading. Scanned the hole a few different directions and decided I better dig. Popped the plug, started clearing out lose dirt in the hole, and about 4-5" down all of a sudden I saw a big round white/silver coin popping out. I knew right away what I had, . Finally hit Mr. Washington! Big smile on my face the rest of the morning after that! Played around a little more thinking I'd find more silver real easy. That was not the case, LOL. Found another wheatie, and then finally the bugs drove me out. I've still got plenty of ground to cover out there and will keep going back there thru the years. Dom this is the same place you, me, and my Dad went to a few years back.

The other Merc ('39) was a park find from last week.

HH all!

Nice finds and congrats on building the courage to knock on doors. Just this last week I finally built up the courage to knock on every door down an old strip and not a single person told me that I couldn't dig between the sidewalk and the road in their yards. By the end I wasn't even worried about asking people anymore!

Yeah it's not easy. I was surprised at how nice these people were. This was a neighboring town from where I grew up, and it's all small towns out there. Turns out the guy that lived there...well his mother was one of my mother's grade school teachers.

Actually when I asked too, I didn't directly ask them for permission at first. They live next to a vacant lot that looked to be a park (there was only 1 swing set). I asked if it was a park and they said yes. Then I told them I was going to metal detect it and asked if it was okay I detected their yard too. And they said go right ahead, and also to try her brother's home too. :)
