To be clear, this post's title does not mean my fourth hunt at the Farm Park but the brief hunt I had this morning, being July 4th, Indepedence Day.

Conditions were hot and humid despite the early start. Most of the fields are planted and the grass had not been mowed in the areas I wanted to hunt that are not used for crops. In the final half hour of this short hunt I had a repeatable mid-tone coming in around 13 on the Equinox 600 (Park2 mode). When I first spotted the target at the bottom of the hole I thought it was a horse tack rivet but was very happily surprised to find it to be a 12 mm diameter cuff button of an early 19th century vintage.

I found this Treasurenet post, http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/what/353515-rich-orange-button-help.html, by Tedyoh with comments by TheCannonBallGuy to be relevant to the one I found this morning.

That button is in amazing condition, given it's age. Very nice!

Sweet button, congratulations on the nice save :icon_thumleft:

Great shape. Nice work on a nice button. Congrats

Congratualtions on the nice button! :occasion14:

Thanks Tom! It really was a great surprise to find that it to be a button and not a rivet. In the hole I only saw the shank and took it as that projection off the back of a rivet.

Thanks Art! I accidently (perhaps mindlessly) clicked the "unlike", so please ignore that when it comes across your wire. Our club (Maryland FreeState Treasure Club) hunted a plowed field at the Kirwan Museum on Kent Island. There were many relic finds, much like what you find in your area.

Thanks Trezurehunter! My first dug of that type, that is, with a flower motif.

Thanks BLK HOLE! Finding this one has renewed my interest in the site.

That's A beauty. Congrats :icon_thumright:

Thanks Hawks88! Yes, did not expect to recover a backmark. The inset design of the button face allows the soil to high the branches and flowers.

Thanks Professor! I'd rather dig a button that old any day. The approximate date range 1810 - 1830 fits with the known date of the former homesite. The late 19th century home was up on a bluff overlooking the fields but I suspect that the original homesite may have been closer to the road, at least more of the buttons and older coins have been dug down in the fields. Then again I seem to find square nails all over the property, so who knows!

Thanks Rook! Some old stuff has been dug here. Every now and then a cool button pops out of the ground.

Thanks Ken! I've seen the guys on Stealth Diggers dig ones like this and thought how cool it would be to find one.

Let me know if you want a hunting partner in a couple months. Feeling a detecting vacation coming up in my future :laughing7:
