40's era coin spill saves the day
Got out for a few hours yesterday around an 1880's era home that I thought was very promising. Junk, junk, junk and more junk. I searched the yard very thoroughly and all I could come up with was a pouch full of junk and a couple clad. About a half hour before calling it a day, I got a nice signal at the base of a giant pine tree. First coin out was the Washington quarter. I actually put the plug back in before I rechecked the hole and I was still getting a great coin signal. Out pops a mercury dime, then another. Then I pulled four wheat cents, a buffalo nickel with no date and an early 40's Jefferson nickel. I was still getting a great signal after that and pulled out a no date standing liberty quarter. The spill saved what had been a very uneventful day. I have found lots of coin spills in the past, but in my recollection I have never pulled multiple silver from the same hole. Great finish to the day! HH
