I don't know anything about pottery, but those are super nice.Looks like some of the lines were made with twine.

Those are incredible! Awesome as usual.
My largest fragment is about the size ofmy thumb. There are those here who have found entire unbroken pots.

I think you are right Neo.Those holes are where the finger or thumb was and it held the cord each time moving it a little to what they call incise(sp) the pottery. Then they would do the next hole and so forth all the way around giving it texture and a pleasant look.
Very nice Larson. Have you ever seen any pottery sherds framed? They look great on a wall.

TN, the marks could have been put there after the cord marks
look closely at the at the marks and you can see the fingernail marks of the maker
this type of design is called punctate and tells us that this is very early pottery, much older than the stuff with the rainbow design
also in the Dakota's each site did not have a specific pottery design
I have seen many village sites and each one has hundreds of different patterns
check out the fingernail prints on these images

Yes I can see them now and you are right they were done afterwards. We studied Tennessee pottery for a while and crushed shell dug clay used morters and pestles and crushed the shell. We have yet to dig the firepits and fire it though,Thanks for sharing I always enjoy seeing it.
