The snow is flying here in Maine today and it's going to be extremely cold all week. So instead of being depressed I decided that I would organize all of my finds from the first 4 months of my metal detecting journey. I had no idea that this hobby would have such a profound impact on my life. I have met some great people, seen places I certainly never would have seen and learned so much about the history of my area. I have also been fortunate enough to meet some great people on this forum. Countless members have helped me with i.d.ing of items as well as giving advice on hunting techniques and everyone has been very positive and encouraging. To those of you that have helped me in any way I just want to thank you all. The icing on the cake has been some of the items that I've dug in my first few months of this hobby. I'm happy to have met you all and wish everybody nothing but success in the future. Here's a few of my personal favorite finds. Thanks for looking. Sincerely, Abe image.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpg

You did great! Superb assortment of finds!

That's awesome for such a short period of time, just think the best is yet to come!!!! HH ! In what ever form you find to do it in!

Nice array of finds and good way to spend your time during these cold Winter months.

Awesome stuff my friend. You are tearing it up. Congrats. :icon_thumleft:

Your right on schedule, and you did quite well for a first season, and a relatively short season at that.
A couple 1700's coins, a key date Vicky, and a pretty nice shoe buckle.
I won't do a year end post just yet, as always hopefull of just one more hunt.

Good Luck out there.

And, we got to meet you! You're well on your way!

For just a few months you have pulled up items that could make seasoned pros green with envy. Congrats on a fantastic first year and I just know you are going to kill it next year. Now that being said you have a just few short months in which to do a ton of research. To feed the addiction you are going to need lots of new areas with high potential for the up coming season, so read everything about the history of your area and get as many old maps as you can find. Don't consider the winter down time, just a diversion form digging to do the research. Oh yea I can't forget to mention the Honey-Do list, get all that done so you have more time to dig when it warms up.

Season's Greetings to you and your family.

Thanks Dave. I've already started researching the history of the many islands off the Maine coast. Fascinating stuff and most don't have the means to get to them. Next spring I plan on spending a lot of time on the water my friend. Best of luck and thanks for all of the encouragement and kind words!

You have a nice 4 month of finds.Congrats.HH.

You did great for someone new to the hobby. There are many who have been detecting for years and haven't found a 2 cent piece. I've only found one, 30 years ago. You'll find that the more experience you get, the more you'll find. You'll get a feel for those deep signals you should dig as well as get a good handle on where to start when you go to a new site. Good luck for the coming year.

Quite a treat to read your heartfelt post and see the wide array of older finds! CONGRATS!:occasion16::wav::occasion16:

New detecting friends, t-net friendships, and the often funny questions and surprisingly useful location tips from random folk sure are among the best aspects of our hobby. Every once in a while I run into the "other grandma" that detects same beaches I do, and we always have some good laughs. I'm in my seventies and I think she's already eighty. My most recent surprise encounter with fellow detectorist was when suddenly a fellow at top of the beach stairs hollered down at me at the bottom. Very friendly Czech guy who's slowly exploring USA west coast beaches & parks with van and detector. Nice chat, and he gave me his old beach scoop as he had a new one. A very nice gesture! HAVE FUN! The greatest part of this hobby is how it brings such a diverse group of people together. Some may be young some may be older, male or female it just makes no difference. We all love the adventure and we love preserving these great relics from our past. Important pieces of our history that would be gone forever. Thank you all for the kind posts. Golden years you are such a great example of what is great about this hobby. Thank you so much for the nice words and I'm happy to hear that you're still kicking butt on the beach and making new friends. Awesome just awesome. This site represents what's best about the internet! Great job Tnet

Ahab8, It looks like you've been bitten hard my the metal detecting bug. Congrats. they are some great finds.

Well said Ahab. It's great to have passionate members like yourself here on Tnet. I joined Tnet in 2007 and was out detecting daily. I just couldn't get enough of it. I even dreamed about detecting. :tongue3:
You have made some fantastic finds in your short time. I love that heart heel plate.
Winter is a great time to get your relics organized, labeled, and put into display cases.
Looking forward to seeing what you dig next season.
Happy Holidays,
Doug in NC

You are off to a great start and your words about this hobby are definitely true! In the course of your research and pursuit of the past you will go places you never would have went, and meet people you never would have met. You will learn things about the history of your area that older people that lived there all their lives don't know. Good luck next season :icon_thumleft:

Ahab you summarized what many of us here feel about this addictive hobby, I have had many different hobbies over the years but none as fullfiling as this. I will go out when its 20 degrees and when its 115 here in Vegas to scratch this itch. I get that same wonderful feeling the same way I did 18 years ago when I dig up a silver coin, marble or token. And have met alot of nice people along the way. I look forward to looking on this site everyday. Where a bunch of nice folks on this page share there joys, and there defeats. Thanks for reminding us how great this passion to this hobby means to us. Happy Hunting.
