Started to search for an area to dig and a Buddy of mine told me about a recent area that opened up due to a school parking lot being put in. So went to look at the old Sanborn maps to see what was there and of course there were houses that once stood on the site. So after a few pokes of the probe we came across 3 pits to do. The area is on a hill side so the privies were either built with brick or just very shallow. Which is what we like, less digging and more finding
So we hammered away at this pit for a few minutes and at about two feet I came across this Killer Lightning Fruit Jar. Yellow Amber color that just flat out sparkles. Most likely dates to around 1880 or so. Unbelievable how it came out whole. There were several bricks tossed right around it, I guess those darn kids had bad aim.
That was by far the best find but we did also come away with a couple of local medicines and an older hutch that was chipped at the top. All in all we had a good time. Sure enough the bulldozers were out there today doing what they do best, covering up history...so it's off to another spot next time and more glass treasures.
On a side note: Killer new forum site Treasurenet!! Great job, it's like finding treasure itself. As always be safe out there and goodluck on your next adventure. jgas
