I went to four banks today to look for rolled halves. First two had nothing, not even loose in drawer. Third had no rolls but 3 clad halves in drawer, I passed. The fourth had no rolls, but the teller that I wasn't talking to says she has 3 loose halves. I smiled and asked, "oh, yeah, what years on them?" She says, '68, '71, and '72. I said, you made my day. I'll take that '68 off your hands. Didn't have to unroll anything, plopped down two quarters and traded. ;D

I think it is better to just buy all they have instead of asking them about the years. One thing it lets the tellers who don't know what years are good, which ones to keep back for themselves in the future. Next time you go to that bank those 40% may not be there. You can always just buy all of them then either spend the ones you don't want or use them to make up for ones you take out of rolls. Just a suggestion.
Good Hunting!!!!!!!!!!

Good point. That bank doesn't keep any in stock anyway. I got four rolls from them 2 weeks ago, but they send all their halves out as they come in. They can't (won't maybe) even order any for me. It'll be a dump bank from now on. Thanks for the advice.

Exactly what I was thinking. Don't go around teaching tellers what to look for...you will just shoot yourself in the foot.........

Exactly. First rule of CRHing halves: Don't cherry pick, buy all they have, regardless.

A bank I stopped at last weekend only had one half. I bought it.

It was a'69 ;D

Ditto - Buy them all, you can always spend the others. If they see you wanting certain years, they may not give you any the next time. Ron
