Hello all,

Went back to the boer war site today. Did lots of walking and climbing so am very sore at this time :'(

Had a great time. Found some more 303 and mauser bullets cases and another first, a 303 still complete and another first, a .455 webley british service revolver case ;D
Also found a pipe cover and another little piece of ornamental metal.

Hope you enjoy the pictures.

You must get excited every time you get a hit. There could be almost anything in the ground there.
Good luck.
Oh, we did a twelve hour hun yesterday. I feel you pain. But it's all worth it.

tymcmurray, yes I do get excited on every hit, you just dont know what is going to pop out the ground like the Kruger Pond.

This site has had many other people search it, so I am finding the remnants that they have missed ::) I must admit, I wish it was a bit more productive like the other Boer war site we went to last year..... Anyway we will go back there maybe next week.

The friend I have been detecting with is losing interest at this time,,,,, umm he does not have much patience and is batling somewhat. I hope he hangs in as we get on well together.

plehbah, thank you very much.... each time I go to these sites my collection gets bigger, I love it. And I am learning so much about the Boer war.

God bless
Peter

And I am learning much more about our civil war.
One of my partners just wants the quick finds and has not the patience for the long haul. I am, however meeting new people through Tnet and some of them have got what it takes to march on.

Looks like you all had fun at that place..... This is a game of patience for sure. Especially if you go to a site where not too much has happened. I have a lot of patience thank goodness.

God bless

Keep at it, you never know what will happen next.

Have you noticed that our banner coins don't like each other.
I think we are going to be up there quite awhile. Wheres everyone elses find of a lifetime? Must be the calm before the storm. I predict another goldie or 2 soon ::)

Thanks Mike, always great to hear from you...

Crusader, SSSSHHHHHH dont tell anybody out there, they may just knock us off ::) I am just loving this detecting hobby, even small finds are great to me.

God bless

I have discovered that the round with the round point head (303) in the first picture was fired from the Lee Metford rifle.
This subject gets more interesting everyday.

God bless

Great finds, Peter...keep em coming. Take care of yourself and don't overdo it.

;) RR

The new and improved British gun. I believe the Lee Metford was a magazine fed gun or not? Military tactics and better weaponry is the only reason the Boers lost the war. The Boers were tough soldiers. HH, Mike

Very nice Peter....But I am happier that you are healthy and out hunting! Its good to see you posting such great finds!

Thanks River Rat, I will take care. But it is so nice to be able to get around again ;D

Mike, I believe the Lee Metford was clip loaded... If I am correct it held about 5 rounds to a clip. The Boer war went through a lot of changes when it came to weaponry.
The Boers were very tough as they were bought up in the bush. The bush being their home and love. The British suffered when it came to the bush, it was too rough for them. Their uniforms also were too heavy, and too thick causing them to become exhausted too quickly. Most off the British troupes even removed the inners of their helmets to give better ventilation as they were too hot.

Very interesting subject. Thank you everyone for taking an interest in this war.

God bless
Peter
