My guess would be that their glass lamp shades. Like the ones that go around bulbs in the bathroom.

I'm thinking end table or bar stool/table. Harris1 can you please post the measurements/dimensions? Are the glass pieces threaded? How stable are the two pieces when they are attached?

from the items sitting behind them, I'm going to guess a foot tall each piece,
tops 10" wouldn't surprise me.
