I got permission today to search a hay field 5 minutes walking distance away from my house. I saw it had been cut the other day and decided to ask if I could search it. Boy, am I glad I did! I arrived at the field and started swinging in the shade since it's a hot day today. My first signal turned out to be an oxen shoe, which I was pretty happy about. I moved on, digging a piece of trash, before I found my coil over a deep but consistent high-tone. After digging down 8 inches I pulled out a handful of dirt, dumped it on the ground, and out rolled a big, green coin. I was so excited as it has been a while since I have found a copper. Unfortunately, it is wiped, but I am still very happy with it! I filled in my hole, kept swinging the coil and after a little while I located a rough, irony sounding signal which turned out to be a table knife! I filled in that hole, moved forward a few feet and got a signal bouncing around in the '70's. After digging a little bit I found a silver-plated domed button with the backmark "Plated" and a wreath. I moved forward two feet and got another bouncy signal ringing mostly in the 60's. I dug down 6-7 inches and found a nice little pewter spoon bowl with a cool back decoration. This is the smallest spoon I have ever found! After digging the spoon, I decided I would wait on this field until my digging buddy could join me, so I am definitely not finished at this field!

When I first arrived at this field I was thinking it was just a field and didn't have any homesites, however, after finding these relics and doing some research, I found out that an early settler may have built a cabin at this site! Super excited to get back to find out if this is the case!

Good Luck and Happy Hunting,
