Got a new permission at a house I have had my eye on for a while now. I found out the new owner is a former scout from my troop and he agreed to let me detect and offered to talk to the people next door who also have a promising old house.
I went out today and got started on the yard. I ended with 37 coins with a face value of $1.25. Of those 7 were wheat pennies, mostly 1940 to 1958, and 3 silver dimes, 1943, 1960D, 1964D (the one I hit). The first dime got hit by my shovel unfortunately. It turns out I was getting a signal from a shallower dime and hit the second dime when I was digging the first. It was deeper and off to the side about 3 inches from the original signal. I saw and recovered the hit dime first and then scanned the plug and found the original signal.
In addition to the coins a found a few additional goodies. A MANOIL #708 convertible in terribke shape, it was located under the area where they drive and park the car in the back yard so it has been run over hundreds of times in the soft ground. I also found a Hollywood Pin-Ups aluminum clothes pin @1945 and a Barclay Toy Co cowboy missing his guns.
A 1936 Allegany County Dog License that was hit by a lawn mower was next and at last a United States Air Force Ground Obersvation Corp pin, missing the eagle form the center. The GOC was formed during WW2 and was in existence until 1957. Some of the pins are sterling. This one looks like sterling, but it is not marked so I doubt that it is silver.
The last coin was a foreign one. A 1945 50 para from Yugoslavia. It’s not in very shape. It looks better when it cam out, but washing it caused it to deteriorate.
A promising start to the new permission, but in some ways disappointing. The house was built in the 1880s and I was hoping for some older finds. Well I have only done a small part of the yard maybe the older items are still waiting out there for me. We will see next week when I go back.
Thanks for looking and may your coil lead you to good things
