I bought this at an estate sale for $1. It seems to be made of brass (it's non-magnetic) and weighs an ounce under 3 pounds. It has 726 and NG (or it might be N6) written in marker on it. It measures about 3 1/4 inches in diameter and the same in height. The guy whose estate it was either worked for the army or NASA so that may help in the identification. Any ideas? Thanks.

We used to write the date and "NG" on parts that did not pass QA. or "NFG" if feeling a little sassy! As far as the part not sure but very cool complex machining especially if done by hand and not on a CNC

Yup, NG.....no good.....that's why he was able to take it home. It didn't pass inspection, so, it went into the reject pile. Looks to be a machine part with critical tolerances.....turbine maybe?

It's very interesting from a machining standpoint in that it has just about every type of machining cut there is- tapering, facing, boring, splining, counterboring, beveling, slotting, inside curving, outside curving- you name it it's got it.

Making it into a steampunk lamp with pen holder may bring the highest return on investment.

Thanks nhbenz. I tought about a pen holder but adding a lamp may be a good idea. Adding a Steampunk description to it is definitely a good idea.
