3 HR HUNT = 3 X COIN WEIGHT & SCALLOPED EDGED CUT 2R ETC ST LUCIA??? !!!

UPDATE: I think this could be a St Lucia coin! See Krause catalog.

I rarely get the chance to hunt these days so when I do I tend to go back to sites that have produced lots of goodies rather than look for new ones. Yesterday I had a 1/2 day and back to one of my trusted sites I went. Almost immediately I got the cut piece. Looks like either Madrid or Seville. The edges are scalloped and there is the O counter stamp. Kind of looks like a reis from Paraguay but not yet sure exactly what to make of it. The 3 weights are pretty cool. There are two 2 pennyweights and one 4 pennyweight. Looks like 2 different passant lion counter stamps. I found several similar pieces on this UK database site:

Record ID: LON-473A90 - POST MEDIEVAL coin weight - Database

Record ID: NMS-714B64 - POST MEDIEVAL weight - Database

Some buttons and a watch key and farmer/ hunter dropped coins.

My best find came when the farmer (never met him, my permission came from the owner) rode out to greet me and offered up 2 more farms for me to explore. One is 300 acres and the other is directly on an important colonial river. Needless to say I am extremely excited about this!

Nice variety of quality finds! I would be happy with any one of them!

Excellent hunt! That cut silver is a nice find along with a good variety hunt.

I was just looking through my Krause world coin catalog and I think I have a St Lucia 3 stampees! It says a circle counterstamp on 1/4 cut 2 reales with the crenelated edge. The picture shown for the next denomination, an escalin, shows the scalloped edge! This is the same site I found another west indies cut coin on.

They're calling the single circle issue an escalin but thats at odds with Krause. Anyway:

What a nice decorative edge on the cut silver, congrats!

That's really awesome silver, very neat looking edges! You scored a bunch of excellent finds! Congrats!

A lot of fun saves there! Excellent work!

300 acres!!!! Yikes! I know how long it takes me to get across one field!
Let me know if you need any help. ;) LOL

What a great day of finds, the silver is an awesome piece and the coin weights are very nice indeed. The one of the best is getting more land to hunt and 300 acres will keep a person going for a long time . Congrats on your day!

That is one handsome looking cut silver. You have a great piece of real estate to hunt, should keep you busy for a while. Congrats, I can't wait to see what you bring up next.
ZDD

They are not coin weights but Bullion weights for weighing precious metals;
2 x 2 Pennyweight ('Annulet' type)
1 x 4 Pennyweight ('Annulet' type)

The Lion denotes its a British origin & likely 18th C, although it could be as late as mid-19th C (some start in the late 1600s).

The cut piece is unusual, not seen that before, very nice.

Thanks much. About 20 years ago when I found this area a local (cant even remember who now) said the inlet creeks mouth was a major trading post. These bullion weights would seem to help confirm that and help explain all the little pieces of cut silver utensils and objects we've found here over the years. Also the two pieces of west indies cut silver coins. The site is so concentrated with iron that my minelab completely blanks out in certain areas. Every time the farmer discs the field I find a little more. In the coming years I should have more time and I hope to do some in depth digging in the vicinity. I have barely scratched the surface so to speak.

Good luck with that & start to clear the iron.

What is the general date range of the site?

Very neat 2R. I guess they drilled it to make the break. What an effect, Love it. Your watch winder is similar to one I just found. Is that a name on it or part of a design.
