3 HOURS - <<<2 HAMMERED>>>.........

The lack of rain has dried out the clay soil, which has made for hard digging. We found a small area of scub land not under crop to search. Not expecting much we gave it ago, as we have little other choices, other than the Huge Field.

I found 2 hammered silver coins:
Charles I 1630s Penny
Elizabeth I 1570s Shilling - Only my second ever, these were a huge amount of money at the time & 90% of the populas would never handle one. Not good condition but like finding $500 coin.

3 Roman bronze coins - 1 OK condition

19th century Hunts Button with a Fox on it.

A lovely decorative belt or harness stud. I have had 100s of harness studs but none like this!

and a few bits...........

Very good 3 hour hunt!

We have lots of clay in NC as well. When it doesn't rain for a while my hunting grounds get limited too.

I hope you get a good soaking rain soon and congratulations. That buckle is way cool!

What, no memorials pennies? :) Perhaps if you come to Seattle I can take you to one of my secret places where there are literally hundreds for these fantastic zinc beauties! Don't get down though; the hammers are kinda cool too, if you like that sort of thing. ;D ;D ;D

Once I got too hammered in three hours... it was the vodka.

As always your finds and pictures are TOO cool dugfinds!

Did you say $500 coin?

Excellent coins. Perhaps on my next trip to the Bronx, NY, I'll find some Hogge money or a Pine Tree Shilling, as I usually do when I go digging in the park on 180th Street. (Joking, folks.)

Yes, I was using this analogy to indicate the value of the Shilling in 1570. I realise there isn't such a thing, but if you lost one, you may take some time looking for it!

Awesome finds, congrats on the hammereds and Romans! The fields are planted here, I detected an American school today and found less than two dollars, LOL! Ground is hard as a rock. HH, Mike

Great finds, sounds like you had a real good time! I know what you mean about digging in that hard-pack...makes for a tough day of digging.

Thanks for sharing,
