Nice Bullet find. Looks like some soldier tipped over his cartridge box near the fire. I dug 42 CW bullets in an area about the size of a small pickup truck bed about 10 years ago where CSA Cavalry were dismounting to fight as infantry on snow covered ground. I guessed that a soldier dropped his bullet bag and did not bother to pick up all his bullets in the snow. Just a theory. HH.
Drop is right!!! I would imagine that whomever dropped all those bullets probably did so whilst dropping.. uh.. OTHER things as well... If he lived through the adventure I'll bet he had to change his drawers. <grin> I would imagine, too, that he was probably pretty rattled to have dropped so many valuable parts of his arsenal... adrenaline, fear, nerves, call it what you will. Every single little artifact we find in this hobby has its own story to tell. We may or may not ever learn what that story is, but we do have imagination to fall back on if nothing else. I would hope, though that soldier (or soldiers) is long dead and gone now, I hope that he survived that day at least, and all that he lost was the collection of bullets that you recovered, and his innocence.. and maybe a rather soiled pair of shorts.
