I went out this afternoon for about 2 hours, to the same 1700's house property that I've been hittin' regularly lately, and managed to find this 1843 dime.
It's now my oldest U.S. silver coin. (previous was 1875). Only a few years from a Capped bust! Damn! lol.
I was just about to wrap it up for the day, when I got this hit. Then I was definately done! I went right to the car happy as could be!
It was about 8 inches deep. This is EXACTLY how it came out of the ground. The back is shot though. You can just barely make out the "one dime".
It was only 3 degrees out here today, but there was no snow on the ground where I was hunting. The ground was pretty frozen, but once I broke through the top 2-3 inches, it was easy diggin'.
I figured it REALLY might be my last chance for a while, since it's not supposed to go above 20 for at least another week, and more snow's coming.
Anyway, thanks for looking. H.H.
TBK.

I'd say that makes freezin' your butt off worth it :) Nice coin... I'm sure it'll clean up nicely :)

Re: Wonder if Kirk King of the Koppa's was out today

Or does he only do bone dry diggin, I was out working in this, just this side of brutal.

you are one hardy dude, 3 degrees just hearing that makes me want to put on a jacket. Nice dime though so that makes the cold a little more bearable...what am I say you are nuts 3 degrees!

awesome find on any day, let alone a 3 degree day !!!

congrats on the coin AND braving the cold

MAN I FELL GULTY IT WAS 38 HERE ON THE EAST COAST AND I STILL HAD ON TWO LAYERS :o NICE FIND THERE.

what do you use to dig with? must have a cold chisel and a 10 pound-er. If it was only 3 degrees here and no wind i would get out. but the wind is unbearable so i have to just wait it out. :'(

Congrats, that's some really hard core hunting my friend, awesome looking seated dime. You really worked for this one, I couldn't even imagine going outside in that kind of weather to hunt. Continued Success with warmer weather to hunt.

thats an awesome find ;) I just read this outloud to the wife and my explorer was shaking in the corner ! I don't think its cold so it must be scared :o Congrats on braving the cold and the awesome dime ;)

Outstanding Find and @ 3 degrees you are a die hard my friend. I love it. Great Job

I was thinking about this again and wondering does the cold temps effect the detectors?
I know I read somewhere that one of mine worked within temps of 30-I forgot. I would have to think that cold....like 3 degrees would have some adverse effects on the machine.
