Hello all, Went on a 3 day Civil War relic hunt this past Wednesday - Friday...started at some sites in central Ky and ended in east Tenn. Finds were sparce, but upon cleaning a fired Enfield I discovered it has the rare 55 cavity cast mark. These in nice dropped condition fetch 80-100$. I have dug over 5,000 CW bullets and this is my first cavity marked! I also dug a curious brass decorative piece that has it's attachment device inbedded in the lead fill...just as was done on CW era plate and buckles. Never seen one of these before...ideas? Thank for looking! HH'ing Bill

Very Nice! That Enfield was made in London by Eley Brothers. Nice find love the cavitie marked lead.

Thanks Quindy! It's gettin tough out there....hope you are doing well. Bill

Congratds on the "55" Bill!!. Never dug anything but "57s". HH, Quindy.

I have some cavity marked bullets now I will have to look and see what they say. Looks like you made some nice finds. I like digging bullets

Im no expert, but The lead back attachment reminds me of a rosette. Congrats on some great finds.

I think it may be way to small for a rosette, and the attachment loop style is wrong for that, too. Unless Bill has monster paws, judging by the size in relation to his fingers, that oval can't be much bigger than 1 1/2 inches long by an inch wide or so. Very unusual piece for sure. My first thought is perhaps a scarf slide, or something of that nature.

Nice Finds! I miss hunting in your region. I used to hunt at Perryville; Ft. Thomas-Covington; and Camp Dennison. I got one of the early copies of CW in Kentucky and had some places researched--just never had the time to return and pursue them.

Bill that is exactly like mine except for the decorative edge the details are different but they are definately the same thing!

Very neat bullet. You're hunting my old home state. Leave some for me, please! Happy New Year.:coffee2:

Congrats on the CW saves. The brass piece looks like a scarf or tie slide.

Agreed horse harness mount, seen similar, I think they pre-date the CW.
