It was a cold but sunny day in Massachusetts. The Silver bandit and I set out early to seek our fortune in the frigid lands of our forefathers... Most ground was frozen solid so we had to hit the woods. The first spot we wandered aimlessly in the woods finding not a single target. Let's get the heck out of here. Next we hit some fields that should have had something old to show. Nothing. Let's get out of here fast time is running out!!! Next spot was a 1600's cellar hole. I ended up finding a decent v nickel and an IHP right next to each other. Time and the elements had their way with them but there were identifiable which is always a plus. Well on a day like this those made my day. Next I had a really bad signal but decided to dig it. It was a dig it all kind of place. It turned out to be a medium size flat button which was nice as I haven't found a colonial button in awhile. As plain and simple as they are I really enjoy finding the old buttons! My time window closed and I skeedattled back home to my family. So there we are: 1910 V, 1887 IHP, 17??'s button. Not the best day but I was really happy to find anything at all (last hunt I was 100% skunked) and it was great to get out there and try! Thanks for reading!

I like, congrats! :icon_thumleft:

That’s a day I’d be happy with! That IHP will clean up with a little elbow grease and a andres pencil

Thanks Joe. That's after the pencil!!! It's one of those coins where if I push or scrub any harder the surface of the coin will crumble. It's as good as it gets!

Enjoyable post, as usual. I like that nickel. I have only found one, and it was toast. That flat button is a good sign. Hope you can score more finds there.

Dang!!! I’ve had copper coins clean up slightly after they sat and dried out for a few weeks. I’m working on a toasted large cent I dug in October using a few different methods and I’m getting detail and most of a date. At least you have the date, still a cool find!!!

Thanks lenmac65! My friend found one on the beach that was unidentifiable and after some tumbling it turned out to be one of the best looking V nickels he's found. You never know!

Thanks Joe. It's a toasted IHP but I still love finding those. They can't all be great!
