Decided to hit an old site in the park I had pounded a few years ago. Strategy was to move logs and dig any really low VDI’s that were decent 2 way signals. (All the high and mid tones are gone now)

Started in Field2, 21 sensitivity on the Nox. Was getting to much falsing iron, so went to Park1. First good signal was a tombac button under a log, then found a couple old toe taps. Cleared a large but rotten log and found remnants of a harmonica reed. Everything was low VDI, 4-11. Dug a small rim fire bullet shell, and saw an unusual piece of pottery,.

Then noticed a larger tree had recently fallen and taken out some brush with it, sort of cleared a 10’x10’ area. Got a deep 7 signal that beeped clean in 2 directions. Thought maybe another tombac, but it was a 3 Cent Nickel.

Here is the quick handful.

The bust side of the 3 Center is not great.

Heading to Louisville for work tomorrow through Monday, looking for some spots to swing in the evenings if not too hot.

Good luck out there!

Congrats on the old coins and relics! :icon_thumleft:

That 3 cent looks like a 1880 if it is even in poor condition it’s close to 100 dollar bill

That (porcelain) head is a great find...! It might be the handle to a lid of serving bowl...
Those coins are outstanding. Don't see stuff like that, here out West...!

Don't see two many 3 cent nickels posted. I hope it is an 1880 like the above poster said. Needle in a haystack, they only made 25,000 of those.

I’ve tried to clean it up a bit more, but nothing helping the date legibility. Thx

Thx! I found a few examples of CW era doll heads that look very similar to this, so I’m thinking it’s 1860’s. We are pretty lucky to have a good assortment of oldies in the ground in W PA. Here is a pic of my 3’s from the last couple of years, today’s at the bottom.ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1563492084.077924.jpg

Hey pa, way to think outside the box, those 3 cent nickels don't pop up often. Speaking of, just walking distance from my house is an old wagon path that I have followed to a site that I hear had a stagecoach stop. This path goes through the woods and is still visible, mostly due to all of the hand-cut sandstone they used to shore it up with, since it follows the side of a hill and a spring runs through it. I've not spent too much time here, but think now I'm going to hit it again soon, as we've pulled TWO of those 3 cent nickels out of there. Yours is awesome compared to ours, which are barely recognizable. There was a LOT of time and labor spent there, a pile of cut sandstone still remains near the spot they shored the road up where the natural spring runs thru. That's a beautiful coin, p.a., great job on the extra effort to pull what little remains. Ddf.

Thanks. Sounds like you’ve got an interesting site. Good luck
