Now that I'm finding them, I can see why y'all like finding buttons. I enclosed three pics below. One of them I posted before but now it is cleaned up and a better pic. Can anyone tell me the company that made them and approximate age?

Also, what is a good book to buy for civilian flat buttons?

Shank broken, "Very Fine Quality" around the rim and a bird with three stars under it around the shank:

"London" on top of around rim and "orange" on bottom around rim. Anyone know the lettering around the shank?

"orange" around rim with two or three letters at top. ANyone know what they are?

Thanks for the help,

Kevo, the bottom two mare generic brass flat buttons of the early 1800's wehich show quality marks. The top one is more interesting. It shows quality marks but also incorporates a patriotic element. You find these eagles once in a blue moon, and they show up in different designs. I've never seen them positively attributed so I'm going to hitch a ride here and hope these two of mine ("snake head" eagle, and "eagle with upstretched wings") might also get identified with your's :-X

Tice explains the buttons with eagles on the back as methods of the English button makers to entice Americans into purchasing their "patriotic" backmarked buttons and the buttons you find with the crown on the back was to appeal to the Brits for more sales. :) Circa 1800+

Thanks for that info Don! I've got to start reading Tice instead of looking at the pictures :D
