That needs to be put in the "crop circles" section. Just playing with you. Do you know these areas? If not, it could be any thing that would kill grass . For example, an old car junk yard was just zoned out in my town, which grandfather clause should have prevented, neither here nor there, and once while playing with google earth, I scrolled over it. What you have pictured reminds me of that. Not saying that is the case, but reminded me of that and thought I would share .

However, junkyard wasn't on a river so, I think I just gave a speech with little relevance. Did not notice the river on my phone screen.
 

Plants or trees planted with protection around them. You can see the green in the center surrounded by dead brush woven around it. There is also a pic on google.
