2nd outing ever

Went to a local park today for about an hour, maybe a bit more. Ended up with 5 pennies, 1 nickel, 1 dime, a toy gun barrel, and something else that I have no idea what it is. Here is a link to the pics, the things that I don't have a clue on what they are, are on the left hand side of the picture.

The item(s) in question were encased in what appeared to be a rock. It was about the size of a softball and I thought it was just a rock, and I hit it with the pinpointer and it kept going off. When I got home, I cracked it open with a hammer and that is what I found.

Yeah, I'm trying to find someone semi-local that can show me the ropes. I think I'm digging plugs correctly and putting them back, but want to get someone that is "seasoned" at this, to show me some tips so that I can make my outings more successful.

Hit some frozen ground that I wasn't able to dig, that I'll go back to when it thaws to see if there is anything good on the hits I received, but the park is frequented by a lot of people, so I'm sure it'll just be modern coins and whatnot, hoping maybe to find a ring or two lol..

I have been researching some old civil war battle areas that are very close to where I'm at, and I plan on going to an old school that was torn down in the next few weekends and am hoping for some older coins.

Went out for another hour today since it got into the 40's temp wise. Went to 3 small playgrounds, found .46 cents in coins, most I've found so far. Couldn't dig any further than about 4 inches due to the ground still being frozen. Still learning my machine, but each time seems to get more productive. Waiting for the ground to thaw and I'll hit up the same playgrounds as I got some hits but couldn't dig. Thought at one point I found a ring, but it ended up being a pull tab lol..
