Today I was metal detecting a civil war site that had just been discovered and had already been hit hard. Instead of finding anything civil war I found an IH my 2nd all time. I am still getting stumped on civil war artifacts. It was on of my first holes of the day. I can't believe that I found that there. I think I might have destroyed it because I cleaned it with a brush. It is a 1908 I think.

well it is a good find, over 100 years old. What kind of brush did you use?

No matter what shape, it is still such fun reaching back and pulling an old coin into the now.

Nice!

Live and learn. I've done that. Anyhoo, nice recovery. Did it chime in as zinc? My last two did.

Your brush didn't hurt that coin, it is made of brass or copper or both, its been in the dirt and got corroded no fault to you.
Very cool find, congrats!

Congrats. Nice find.

looks great to me

Nice!, sometimes I swear I like finding Indians more than silver.........sometimes that is

Good digs!

I went to the same spot the next day and found another one it is crusty so could I put in venigar to get red of the crust with out harming it?
