Choice is not always a good thing & this time of year we have far too much to think about. We decided to return to our 2nd Fav Field (actually a name we give to 2 fields on the same farm) because it was deep ploughed last year & we never covered it. As luck would have it the ground was still damp & he was desperate for staw so cut the Wheat very low which gave us a fighting chance in the stubble. We could not believe the amount of stuff the plough had turned up :o Very exciting to search but after 4.5 hours (9 man hours), the really killer find stayed hidden :-\
Still the result was good:
My first (I think) 18th C pewter 3rd Reg of Foot Button :icon_thumright:
A few other nice buttons
Broken hammered halfgroat of James I :(
Pipe Bowl with 'C.Crop' stamp - Charles Crop - late 19th C
Rose & Royal Farthing
3 Lead Tokens
1 Jetton
2th C Tokens - 1 nice one from Doddington dated 1668, had to laugh as its spelt Doodington on the token :D
3 Scrappy Roman Coins
Imperial Service badge/medal
Silver plated Owl

Good point, we did get the slam :D

I think its the seated chicken dance.

This field is not the large long one that goes up the hill but the smaller one next to it. Its not had quite as good results as its neighbour but I did get a Gold Qter Stater from it  :icon_thumright:

Nice Imperial Service Badge!
These fields are very good for many discoveries over the years .... but you are not yet plowed fields? :icon_scratch:

Nice Finds Cru, I'm really diggin' how well the date pops on the 1668 Halfpenny that you have in the lower center of the 2nd from last photo, Awesome my friend  :icon_thumleft:

We were on ploughed land yesterday :icon_thumright:

Lots of ploughed fields, just not the right ones. Plus I prefer low stubble or barley stubble because you get better depth.

Its a good example, as we can read every letter on both sides, rare for such a thin brass token to hold up in our soil with nitrates etc..

Thanks, the buttons made the day

"Good results" I'd say, even your lead pile has cool items, like the horse head, and dumping man.

The Military medal must be a pretty good find. They don't come out of the ground too often.

a nice half penny token there, that would have made my day :icon_thumright:
It did make Cru'Dads day, as I had all the good buttons ++, but if memory services me well, we have had that issue of token in the past, although I think this one is in better condition.

The WWI Imperial Service 'Badge' (or pin) that I just googled; was issued to those members of the Territorial Force that had volunteered for service overseas. Strangely, I have found just 1 other like it & I'm pretty sure it was in the same field. This field was allotments during the War, which is why so much stuff was dumped on it (or lost).
