Got permission to search an old cellar hole today. The home was built in the early 1800s and was used as a union fort site due to its prime location (a hill top next to the battle field.) The larger (still standing) house next door is famous because it housed the generals and still has their names written on the walls. The owners have unearthed cannon balls and dropped mini balls there. At my permission I dug my second ever eagle button. It was found right next to where the front door would have stood. I’m assuming troops went back and forth from the house to the fort throughout their stay. I decided to head out to the field between the two houses and found a fired pistol bullet & a tent grommet. I think they camped here and want to search it harder. I had to stop digging due to the weather. But I will get back out and see what I can find to further build the story!
