Well, I got home from work this morning and went to church. Got home and started the deactivation of the cannonball from Friday. I let it soak in water for 3 days and then plunged with a fiberglass rod. It had a wooden fuse and I broke through to the cavity. I then started the wash out catching some of the black powder in gauze. While I was in the back yard my neighbor called to come check an area he just cleaned up in the back yard. Nothing but trash, moved over to the grass and found a 3 ringer which I gave to him. Moved on ann got a strong relic signal, dug my plug and bingo a hard metal sound on the shovel. I said" another cannonball pretty as can be". Started moving the dirt with my plastic shovel and found that I was not that blessed, it was a large fragment. It will clean up and go in the frag pile. The picture shows some of the black powder I recovered. Will keep you posted on cleaning but it will be awhile, hope to hunt Monday.
