Hi all,
I went back for about the 5th time to the house where I found 5 silver coins earlier in the week..I skipped over some clad but didn't find anything old there today, not even a wheat (I ended up with 35 wheats in that one yard!)
Today I was able to check a yard with a vacant house across the street from that yard (also a corner lot). I was able to flag down the next door neighbor who said the houses were built in the 40's, right after the war. That was even better - I had been checking neighborhoods built in the late 50's all summer long and rarely found multiple silver like I did at both of these yards.
Anyway about 20 minutes into my search I hit another 50 cent signal close to the house, not far from the sidewalk leading up to the porch. One flip of dirt and I see the Liberty Bell! Thank God I didn't scratch this one..the dirt was hard from lack of rain, but this one was probably only an inch deep! Needless to say, that find made my day!
After that shocker, I came up with $4.45 in clad, an ENTIRE cap gun (not pictured, I forgot it in the truck), parts of another cap gun, a Hot Wheels car, part of another toy car, a pendant, a button and 5 more obsolete coins, a 1963-D Rosie and 4 wheats (1920-P, 1945-D,1948-P and 1950-D).
Hope everybody's day was as good as mine!
Nat
UPDATE: Here's the cap gun pics!
The Hubley (top) didn't hold up as well as the one marked "Smokey". It literally came out in pieces. I found the Hubley in a different location after I found the Smokey. At first I thought I had a matched pair o'six guns. As I dug up the Smokey, I saw the butt end and knew right away what it was..I very carefully dug around it..I wanted a WHOLE gun with no scratches or defects (for once!) I was amazed to find the mechanism still in working order and one side of the gun still has a little patina left.
