Today, I had an appointment get cancelled, and after work, I didn't know what to do now. So of course, let's go metal detecting!
I decided to go to a fairly new permission. In 3 visits, I've found about 40 wheat cents and a few silver dimes and my first Franklin half dollar! This place dates pretty far back, but it has a lot of remodeling to the yard...total bummer...
I decided to detect around the pond, and I sure an glad that I did that, I'm now officially in the 1700's club! I got a decent signal, but, was a 79/80 on my detector, so I figured a penny or maybe a fishing lure or something. To my surprise, it looked like a large cent! I retrieved my tooth brush and I could see AMERICA on the back, since I could tell it was pretty corroded, I took it easy on the other side... I brushed it a little bit, and saw the L in LIBERTY, And then I brushed over the date area with my thumb, and I could make 17. I just stopped, looked again, and then put it in my pouch...I thought about it the rest of the time I detected, going for more of that age, but nothing. I did manage 5 more wheats, one is a nice 1918. Also a 1954 roosie and a 1942 mercury dime. It's when I got home that I confirmed my hopes! A 1796 LIBERTY CAP cent... It is toasty, but I love it!!!
