Actually Boys...Its a sewing machine needle plate.
Thank You Gypsy.

Actually Big Cy...I am just looking at an old treadle sewing machine that I have and it looks almost identical. But as always I am not 100% positive.
OK. I'm just not sold on the keyhole because of the shape. But could be. :-\

Re: ?

NEHunter, can you determine if the remains of the screw are from a machine screw or a wood screw?

The beveled hole would make me think wood.

Re: ?

I agree, but its not what I expected to see. I was tending to agree with Gypsy (my friend is supa' smaat), but I would expect a machine thread on something that needs to be close to precision-fit. (please excuse my poor rendition of a quote from GoodWill Hunting)

Re: ?

I suppose we could have a beveled flat head machine screw, now that I think about it.

Re: ?

Right on, but its sunk too far to tell... infact, further than I think it would've been originally. :-\

Re: ?

The more I look at it the more I agree with Gypsy. It'll allow for various attachments above it like button-hole stuff and what-ever else it is that those sewing folks do.

Re: ?

Oops, I should have noted the size comparison... its smaller than I was thinking. :-[ Hmm...

Re: ?

on my treadle and on my regular machine, the holes both recieve a beveled screw. The older machine has a larger opening for than the newer and is shaped more like the example pic. A friend of mine has an even older machine so I will try and get a pic.

But it could very well be something else....funny there isnt a number or anything on the backside...
