I use a magnifying app it has curved the f at the bottom to look like an e but its correct f checked and double checked. :)
 

Wow, quite impressive. I'd sure like to find out about the hallmarks on my gold Item. It's not old like yours, I'm sure.

its not only the letter - its what it is held in
1803 is a squareed off shield with the f
1905 is a square with cut corners which is what yours looks like
but I only have your pic to go by

You have me looking closer... I gotta say you may be right... Could be 1905. The letter is not the same as 1905 but the stamp may be.. I'll get it checked and let you know.

Looks like 1905 to me too - either way great find ! (yeah, the shape of the recessed escutcheon matters bigtime )
