Hello everyone. I have a couple of questions about a coin I have just received. The mint mark appears to be doubled and could be flat field doubling but I'm not sure. Also, there is some incuse machine doubling on the letters of E PLURIBUS UNUM. Just wanted some help in identifying what I see. Thank you.

You are right, the Silver Eagle exhibits Machine Doubling due to a double punch of the Hydraulic Press! The reason that "E PLURIBUS UNUM" exhibits incuse doubling is due to over-polishing of the inside and edges of the lettering on the Die resulting in flared edges around the incuse lettering. Then when the Silver Eagle was struck and the double punch of the Hydraulic Press caused the Machine Doubling, this resulted in more pronounced incuse edging around the letters (due to the edges of the lettering on the Die being higher than the Fields producing surface of the Die).
