Well I decided to get out early this morning. Woke up and was in the field by 5:45am. Wanted to get a few hours in before the kids woke up. Didn't take me long before the signals started ringing in. First significant item outta the hole was an old looking key. Then came the small fork. About an hour into the hunt I got my first coin. And what a coin to start off the year! The E-trac rang out steady on a 12-33 signal about 4" down. Dug the plug and out came "cut" Spanish silver. What better way to start the year!!! Then I followed that up with two Indians back to back. First was an 1882 and then a 1884. Found three wheaties, 1930, 1945 & 1912. Also pulled four flat buttons, a couple rivets(one with fabric still in it), and a .45 cal(approx) size bullet. Not sure if the bullet is old or not, but it didn't look modern to me. All in all I had a great hunt and couldn't have asked for a much better start to the new year!

If anyone can ID the Silver piece it would be greatly appreciated. Not much there to ID it with, but if you're familiar with these coins you'll be better at it than me. Thanks for the help.

Happy New Year to everyone and of course, Happy Hunting!!!

-Nate

HAPPY NEW YEAR! Nate! :hello2: :hello2: :hello2:

What a great start to the New Year ...But I gotta say that I think you might be just a little bit addicted to this hobby. Most "normal" people are still sleeping off last night. I figured that I got it bad when I come on and just look at this forum. ;D (I am planning my first hunt of the year though ... and it will be today)

Addicted??? Yes...Just ask my wife. I was going to go out last night around 10pm and ring in the new year while detecting, but decided to wait til the morning. It's very dark out in the field that time of night.

Well I only got as far as determining it was probably Spanish origin. Didn't know where to go from there.

It's worth the 20 mile drive out there isn't it?!

Yeah, I was going to say you got yourself a 1/2 reale COB much better than cut Spanish silver! Awesome find buddy, Congratulations :occasion14:

Yep, looks like a 1/2 real, but if you could find out the weight, we could know for sure, should be around 2 grams.
What a fun hunt!

Congrats

It weighs in at 1.17g. It's a bit light, but it's very thin. Probably been hit with a plow a few times and just worn from being in the ground so long.
