It is a tent tie down devise, that lets you adjust the tension on the line. Should be post civil war, about spanish american war era.

As said it is a tent rope tightner but I have dug them in 1860's sites :thumbsup:

Great ID! Found it at a park which was a civil war training camp. Also found a 1860 Indian and a black powder can lid. Thanks!!

This is a tent adjuster for sure and I have dug a few (all in Civil War camps).

Like several said it is a tent rope adjuster. They started using them during the civil war but most are Span-Am period. All the ones I've dug were from civil war sites.
