I know this forum doesn't get the most traffic, however I am going to try to be diligent about posting my finds in 2009, which may increase interest in currency collecting. I will update this thread throughout the year with my totals and my finds.

Currently it is Dec 31, 2008 and I have set up my 2009 goals for currency searching as follows:

500 pre-1988 series $1 Federal Reserve Notes (603)
2 $1 silver certificates (blue seal) (12)
2000 $1 Star notes (1681)
10 Web Press Notes (22)

200 $2 Star notes (149)
10 $2 United States Notes (red seal) (2)

10 notes of any denomination with 5 leading zeroes in the serial number (2)
1 note of any denomination with 6 leading zeroes in the serial number

Please take note that I do not routinely search $50 or $100 notes in large quantities, and $5, $10 and $20 notes I also do not routinely search because the collector appeal seems to be lower than that of $1 and $2 notes.

***Update as of 12/30/2009***

Lowest serial number to date: $1 B00000251A

$1s searched: 328,700
$2s searched: 28,471

Breakdown of $1 notes:

63 x11
63A x26 (1 star)
63B x78 (3 stars)
69 x22
69A x8
69B x12 (1 star)
69C x7
69D x15
74 x50 (1 star)
77 x53 (1 star)
77A x53 (1 star)
81 x81 (1 star)
81A x47 (1 star)
85 x142
88 x108 (2 stars)
88A x632 (3 stars)
93 x257 (6 stars)

Me too!

By the way, when you say you want 500 pre-1988 $1 notes, does that mean 500 of them in good shape or do you keep them in any condition?

Updated today, found my first Web note today. Took me 25,000 $1 notes. That's actually the exact estimate I had of their rarity in circulation today. Wonder when my next one will surface?

I had a good day today. Actually I found my 2nd web note after about 29,000 (only 4,000 after my first) and today I found my third, and the best one yet, after about 45,000. So the average is at about 1 in 15,000 notes right now. I'm hoping I can turn some more up!

Good idea. Paper currency hunting isn't that popular.....yet

I did 5,000 $1s today and oddly enough, found my 4th web note, a 1993 B-H run 7 1/8. One of the more common ones but still, number 4 on the year and it's only Feb. 10th. Also strange was the fact that out of 5,000 notes I only got 16 star notes.

Found 5th web note today out of only 1,000 so far. 1988a F-V Run 2 4/8. One of the more common 88a webs but still, I'll take it! This takes my average down to about 1 in 11,000 which is much more common than I'd expected. Possibly I am just getting lucky, or maybe some are getting turned in now that people are going through old collections or whatever and turning stuff in.

I searched 2,600 $1s this afternoon and came up with my lowest serial number so far this year, and my first 5-leading-zero note so far. A 1999 series $1 B00000251A. Nothing else too notable in the lot. I'll post a pic at some point in the near future.

I finally found a 1969D $1 note today, which completes the series set of modern $1 FRNs that I have found. Only took me about 92,000 $1s to look through too!

Well, I found my 10th web note today, an 88A E-K Run 8 5/6. They have really been rolling in for me lately! And it only took 115,000 $1s to search.

Too bad the 5 leading zero notes have not been as plentiful...I'm still stuck at 1 on the year.
