2009 was one of my best years for numbers, but would prefer quality over quantity anyday, however it was nice to find a great number of coins, especially a high amount for me and my son for the early year coins.
Between my son and myself 27 coins from the 1700s and earlier was a good year for us. My son hunted very little this past year due to other obligations but the few times he did get out he usually found a few oldies each time.
My highlight for this year was really the best button I found, but it was a year of a couple of firsts in the coin department.
My first Condor Token, my oldest copper ever found, my first Pillar Half Real, which are hard to come by, and a couple of seconds that are noteworthy, my second 1793 Half Cent, which is more toast than coin, and my second 1835 Hard Times Token - Walsh's General Store....
I do not have photos of all the coins, due to a few computer problems, but gathered together enough of them to satisfy what was a good year.
1680's Charles II Irish Halfpenny, my oldest Copper found to date.
Three William III Halfpence
A heavily worn 1736-60 Irish Halfpenny
1734 KGII Halfpenny
1739 Pillar Type Half Real, my first one out of quite a few Half Reals I have found
Two KGIII Halfpence, the one Halfpenny is a 1775 counterfeit known as a Long neck variety
I guess a highlight of the year would be getting three different state coppers!
A Heartbreaker find - A 1793 Half Cent, my second one, but dang, it is toasted!
Another first for me, a 1795 Yorkshire Condor Token, still a decent amount of detail, included a photo of what a good one looks like!
Two more Half Cents for 2009, the 1797 Liberty Cap was found the same day I found the Irish Union Greens button and kind of got overlooked for finding such a nice Half Cent.
Two decent Draped Bust Large Cents, the 1798 was a bit unusual in that the same site my son found two 1798s, three from one site, kind of neat.
This mutilated Large Cent was found in a heavily iron infested site and was really deep, but I was surprised to see the initials of MF on it and muttered under my breath when I saw the condition. But I was happy to at least see the ONE CENT and some wreath leaves which allowed me to say it was most likely an early year Coronet Type Large Cent.
More finds continued on followup post.
