2006 Went Out with a Bang!! (actually, just a "barrel band")
Well, I thought I'd finish out the year today with another great find from my Mission Period site, but alas.... no Reales, Phoenix Buttons, or even a medallion. I spent a few hours there this afternoon and only managed to grab this "barrel band". It's brass, has a swivel attachment, and is stamped "S" on the outside. Could be Mission Period or Civil War.......
I knew exactly what it was when I found it, but I'm having a little trouble with the ID. It's definately stamped "S" on the outside, and I was initially thinking Springfield, but the Springfields are usually stamped with a "U".
Here's mine with the "S".
Here's a LINK to a circa. 1795-1808 Springfield barrel band almost the same as mine. There are others on the site.
There appears to be some indistinguishable stamps on the inside as well:
And, here's a picture of it slid over the barrel, next to the barrel band on my .58 cal. Hawken replica.
Anyway, I just thought I'd share..... and,
HAPPY NEW YEAR to all!!!!
BTW, if anyone can help more with the ID of the barrel band, I'd appreciate it!!
