Good find , but how the heck did you clean that it looked like toast now its in pretty good shape :dontknow: nice cleaning job  Dd60

Hello DeepDiger60,
Given its low value, & composition,(same as modern US nickel)
it sat in a Noxon bath.
I pulled it out after a couple hours & hit it with choreboy.

Noxon is a harsh metal polish, (actually I used 'Brasso' same difference)
choreboy is a brandname of coarse stainless steel or copper scrub pad.
I DO NOT recommend this procedure for ANY coins until you are Positive they are not rare or valuable. good day & HH, Herbie.

Hey Herbie, thought I'd show you what your coin looks like in good condition I have 7 or 8 of em ....now for the bad news ,this coin series was taken out of circulation in 1985..if you go to a currency exchange in Mexico they will give you a percentage of the face value in new currency ....if not its just a cool looking coin .
Hope this gives you a little more insight on your find .

Thanks for the pix & info!
Any idea why they are being taken?
It is a good looking coin. HH,

ok here is what I was told by a person at the currency exchange in mexico , Like I say we find tons of their currency here . I was told that since the early 80's they started taking all older coins (she wouldnt give me a exact date) where to be taken out of currculation an new coins put back in ,This was put into place due to counterfitting by the cartels , since then a run a set for only X amount of time an make all new coins ........thats what I was told atleast.

Yes, that's a modern coin that can fool you when it has that much buildup. HH :icon_thumleft:

Either way it's a kool find and nice in any collection.

Not much in cleaning I have to ask.
What is noon bath?
What is a chore boy?
Thanks.
