I have a German banknote for $20,000 marks dated 1927. Anyone know what it is worth? I will post a picture of it tomorrow.

Post WWI inflation money. They made notes in the million mark denomination. I don't think it is terribly valuable, but it sure is a conversation piece. Look on E-bay for reference.

I talked to many germans while I was stationed in Germany. Many talked about the nazi years and what went on. Some of the older ones talked about the hyper-inflation of the 1920as. One man told me that inflation was so bad that his pay went up every day and he was paid every day in cash and had to spend it all on the way home. He also said that people ruthlessly (his words) tracked down their landlords and bankers and paid off their mortgages and loans. He said that one day he went grocery shopping and had so much cash that he had it in a wheelbarrow. Since he was alone he took an armload in and dumped it on the counter and went back to get the rest. While he was inside someone stole his wheelbarrow and left the money behind.

One of my coin dealers showed me a 1 billion mark coin from the 20's. Now that would be a cool little item to have in the collection. ;)
