After doing some reading last night, I think this was an early 19th century general service cuff button. I believe this one's pewter considering its condition & one-piece.

What is the back mark on the eagle button, looks like large lettering? The face appears to be a raised shield which is indicative of Indian War era (1866-1897).

The other looks like a pewter button which is much earlier.

Yah, the button on the right is mid 1850's-1870, US Military.

The one on the left is the one in question. Pewter doesn't hold up very well, as you can see. This came from an area that we recently found a 1779 2 reales, 1809 half cent & a 1829 capped bust dime. It was a great hit, nice mid-toner.

The pewter looking one must be 18th C.
