A little bigger than a quarter in size with a mans face and partial shoulders on the front. I can also make out a partial name "geor" stamped on the edge of the coin.
Any ideas on what it may be and the best way to remove the crud from it?

Thanks in advance for your help and ideas on this.

it looks like a George II coin, possibly a half penny? early to mid 18th century. i am no expert though. and that crud is on there for good. its just verdegris and if you take it off, all the details will go with it. nice find!

WITH GEOR and the head -- BRITISH KING GEORGE COIN FOR SURE -- nice colomial era coin try weighing it and knowing it;s dia. size in mm -- this will help you figger out exactly which type it is -- farthing , (1/4 penny) , half penny . or penny -- its in rough shape so not a huge high dollar value coin but still a cool bit of history
