I posted these with some other things in "Today's Finds," but thought I would try my 2 mystery items on this board.
Everything found around them has been from the late 18th - early 19th century.
I have absolutely no idea about the monogrammed piece. The object, with the small handle, looks like a small lid. Or, could it have had a molded design fixed to it for pressing wax seals?

I am thinking along the lines of that lid being a lift-off lid to a desk ink well.

Ahhh. It looks like a lid, but I could not think of a type of lidded container, that would have been that size. An inkwell is a likely possibility.

Perhaps the lands held leather or rubber sealing discs.

It’s the right size for an ink well but why the “M”? I thought some kind of leather decoration

I was talking about the broken disc with the little handle protruding from it. I think that is what creskol is saying could be from an inkwell.

The monogrammed piece is a real mystery. Now, I'm thinking that it could have been a way to add a monogram to some personal object that might have had some wooden element, such as a knife handle. It looks like it was designed to grip and hold itself within a tapered hole.

The one with the "M" looks like it was a snap type of button, maybe from overalls?

Thanks, Back-of-the-boat! I had it posted in recent finds, and CRUSADER said the same thing. I think that one is solved.

I agree with back of the boat. Maybe it’s not an M though. It might be a W from wrangler jeans.
