Dad & I spent 4 hours checking the limits (scatter) of a Roman site. Earlier this year we had found a couple of scrappies much lower down the hill than the main scatter, so we wanted to make sure there wasn't any finds we were missing. We had no finds lower down so the sites limits are now confirmed. It was worth gridding in the already done (twice) area as we added a few bits including a Roman Bracelet fragment & very rare Saxon Small-Long Brooch Variant - 6th C AD!

Picture 1 is the 4 hours on the first site - minus the 8 Roman Coins (Dad is cleaning & recording them & pictures will be added tomorrow)
Picture 2 is only 2 hours on a nearby Roman Site that we are now surer than ever was an area of light industry - metal working & recycling. Guess how many Roman Coins in 2 hours? (picture added tomorrow) Dad got a 1st C AD Lead Ring, I never knew they did this type in Lead, we have had a few silver ones:icon_scratch: Doing searches on the PAS & UKDFD only came up with about 5 examples (possible Roman Lead Rings, but not this style).
We had some bad intel from our Northern Terrorities team member (Land-Mag) who said it was rough ploughed & it was as flat as a pancake. :laughing7: Land-mag made a rare appearance & more importantly a much rarer find than Dad & I.:goldtrophy:

Picture 2 has a broken type of Medieval Buckle I have never seen.
Roman Pinhead
1/2 or broken Roman Oval plate brooch with other metal lumps melted onto it.
I had about 10 pieces of Roman bronze workings (blobs)

Good stuff as usual. Keep up the good work.

Killer stuff! Interesting lead ring.

So...what did LandMag find??? Don't tease us. Let the cat out of the bag.

am I the only one who wonders if the Romans did anything but bury treasure and artifacts in Britian?

Very nice Cru. Do you ever do much hunting in forest areas? It seems the fields fertilizers and plows are mighty rough on those relics.

ok, I'll guess how many coins..... hmmm, I'll say 89

Some very interesting finds Cru., Yes and what did LandMag find? I am guessing in 2 hours 23 coins.
ZDD

Liking the piece of the Medieval Buckle, great looking find. The brooch still looks like it has some gold wash on it, too bad about the melt that's on the piece.
What, only two lonely buttons? I'll guess 34 roman in two hours.

He might post, so I will wait.

I've never found any Roman stuff that I consider buried. Its either dumped (kind of buried but no intent to return) or lost.

Not many forest areas around us & many are protected natural areas, so no digging. We only have 1 wooded area that we had part of a Roman Site in, & yes the general preservation was better. Also is impossible to see cropmarks in woods, we would need a Lidar Scanner & helicopter to help us out....lol

Come on, we are quick but thats closer to our 1 day combined 14 hour total. (ie. our best 1 day total ever 9? - can't remember if its 97 or 98:icon_scratch: )

If Cru makes a secret from that i guess that they hit the (jack)pot.... :laughing9:

No secret just a game, the jackpot would have insitu photos, but after the Archies were called in.

Winner with the closest:hello2:

He only did about 1 hour on this field & got 5 (I think)

Very nice finds Cru, love the amount of research you and your father do for your sites! :occasion14:
I like the flat button, the Victoria Penny and this piece!
