Well Rick and I got out last night for a quick evening hunt in a local field and apple orchard boy was the digging was hard. The clay dirt has turned to brick and can give you an extreme work out. The orchard didn't provide any coins but we did find evidence of a dwelling, lots of glass and good iron patch. I dug up a scrambled piece of copper (lower left) which I recognized right away as a lock plate from an old steamer trunk. I have found many on shipwrecks but when you find one in an apple orchard it tells me that there was most likely someone living in that area years ago. We will go back when the ground is softer and the apples have been harvested.
Any way we hit the field next to the orchard and I scored 2 coppers, one I can see a young Queen Vicky but the other is toasted. Hopefully after some rain we can re-visit the site and pick out some silver.
HH everyone,
