Civil War Artillery Shells Found in Fairhope | Mobile AL, Pensacola FL News, Weather, Sports | WPMI-TV | Local15TV.com
I have lived and searched here for 40 years. I have found many unknown sites but any gun placement especially within city limits would have been well known and the old timers I talked to back in the 60's never mentioned this area as a site. Union troops came up Fish river, SE of this area. The more likely explanation is that someone brought the shells from Blakeley or Spanish Fort back in the day. Back then you could find shells, muskets, canteens just laying on the ground. Thankfully people put them into their private collections as the Spanish Fort subdivision destroyed the battlefield.
Where there is two there are probably more. I wonder how many metal detectors I will see there if I drive by??
