Found these 2 1906 Indians in the same hole. First time with multiple Indians in the same hole. You can read the "liberty" on both of them. One on left came out of ground in better condition. This just adds to my bewilderment on why some coins come out of the ground in better condition than others. Until I can start locating some seated silver, Indians are my favorite to find.

Congrats on the double Injuns, Jon.

Soil minerals, moisture, and fertilization all affect copper in the ground. Some of the places I dug my Injuns this year, they came out clean, while other places, the Injuns were heavily pimpled.

Captain/Quicksilver,

I have some understanding of ground conditions and why this effects condition, but it just doesn't seem consistent. The 2 indian heads were dug from the same depth, same hole, neither was on top of the other, they have the same date, and must have been lost at the same time. The thing I can't figure out is why is one in so much better condition than the other. It doesn't seem to make sense.
My best guess is pretty far fetched, but is it possible that the exact metal content varies from coin to coin as they are being made?
I would be very interested to know of any scientific studies on this topic.

Jon Dickinson
