2 inch square thin brass or copper embossed what??? From early 1800's homesite

Found this item this morning while probing the dirt pile from yesterday's dig at what I believe to be a trash pit or privy site. Didn't have my detector with me was just stirring the dirt pile with my Propointer. Obviously missed it yesterday. As you can tell in the photos, can't find any holes where image.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpg it might have been tacked onto something. My best guess would be a belt buckle but that is only a newbie's guess. As always, any help would be appreciated.

On an off guess I would say its probably a decorative placard for a piece of furniture or decorative box. Probably would have been attached with glue or some sort of lacquer. I don't see any signs of brazing or tacks. You said you found it at a potential trash pit or privy so that does not rule out something like a gift box that's long since decomposed. My thoughts, if you can do it try sifting the site a bit. Such placards were also applied to old bottles as well.

Have you found any new information about this artifact? I have found another one near where I live.
