2 Hours With My New Garrett 4 1/2" Sniper Coil!
Finally received my new Garrett 4 1/2" "Sniper" Coil from Kellyco earlier this week and decided to try it out at my favourite relic site! Of course I headed to the 1880 Myrtle School site , I just new there had to be some interesting finds left! I started by hunting the line of pine trees that divides the school property from the park property. This is where I found the early glass button, the pocket knife and most of the square nails. The button looks to have been either brass or gold plated and has traces of black enamel paint on it.
This new coil took some getting used to as my Garrett came equipped with a much larger 8 1/2" x 11" coil. Once I realized I was getting the "actual readings" of the relic and that they weren't mixed with other metals, it became much easier to find what I wanted. I soon realized that I needed to slow down my swing speed and move much slower over the areas to allow the smaller coil time to adjust to the ground conditions.
After an hour I moved to the school foundations, and promptly found the copper crucifix very close to the walkway. It looks as if it was silver plated at one time and has some writing on the back which I'm unable to read.
Happy hunting and have a great weekend everyone!
