Got permission to hunt a house built in 1801. The guy who used to live here ran a carriage making business out of his barn until about 1859. I hunted from 3:30 to 5:30 and came away with a whopping ten wheat pennies - 1924, 1926, 1934, 1941, 1944, 1947, 1948, 1949, 1953, and 1956. Also got two silver rosies (1956, 1964), and an undated Standing Liberty Quarter. Found 2 bells at the end of the hunt marked "Pat. Oct. 24 1876 and May 14 1878". I came across this wierd looking key thing - any ideas would be appreciated. The small play token reads "chicken feed play coin" and "one henny penny" on the back. Not pictured is a little buckle I found, a flat button marked "Orange Color" and two doorknobs
I wish this was all 1800s coinage, but I have permission to go back tomorrow. Only downside is the landowner wants to keep everything I find , although frustrating, I don't mind - I just wanna dig this stuff up! Oh well, he runs a bed and breakfast out of his house, so these relics will nicely accompany the amazing transaction ledger book that details every exchange of money or other goods for carriages. Now that I've gotten a lot of the shallower signals out of the way, hopefully there will be as many older coins still waiting!!
Thanks for looking!!
