Not sure about your grill but most are made of gold. So nice score.

I am sure I got a low budget one :-\ as it is silver toned. Are they usually marked like rings?

That grill might be a "stock" item the dentists keep on hand for fast sales as well as low price. I discovered that dentists keep "stock" sized caps on hand for ready use if the patient can't afford the porcelain or gold caps. They are OK if it is on a rear tooth and not readily seen when you smile. Those stock caps are made of a nickel silver type alloy that looks just like this grill in the photo. It kinda makes sense that they would have such an item for the hippity Hop crowd with no money to spend. ;D

Re: 2 first;1st "SilverDollar" and a Teeth Grill

The Ike's were only silver if they Have an S mintmark on them I do believe. But hey still not a common find. Nice grill too.

Re: 2 first;1st "SilverDollar" and a Teeth Grill

Nice finds :icon_thumleft: i like Ike :laughing9: Good hunt  Dd60

Some Eisenhower Dollars were minted in a 40% silver clad to be sold to collectors. All of these coins were minted at the San Francisco Mint, with dates 1971, 1972, 1973, 1974, and 1976. There are also approximately 15-20 silver clad coins in the 1977 variety. These coins were either uncirculated or proof . In 1971 coins the letters FG appear on Eisenhower's neck and on the reverse at the lower right of the eagles tail feathers. FG are the initials for the designer Frank Gasparro

The grill is a dime store version. I have seen 18k gold with diamond all the way down to aluminum foil pressed into the teeth. It is a inner city, black cultural trait, that indicates gang affiliation.

I have to disagree. They are not purely a racial cultural item. Nor do they have anything to do with gang affiliation. They are just a fad. I had a small recording studion next to one of the tattoo shops I worked at that sold em. They sold to anyone who could afford em. And most of the time it was rich white kids. Most of the kids that wear em are trying to make a statement about wealth. Its that simple.

I know thus the quotes around the words. Mine is a clad for sure as it is a "D" mint. But a first is a first. Too bad it wasn't my favorite, a Morgan.

The grill seems to have a piece of tooth attached to it :-\ so maybe it had some help falling out :o it also has what looks like silicone in them to attach to wearer? Tooth looks like par of a canine by shape :dontknow:

Take the grill into a jeweler and have a Karatage test done. More than likely they are gold. Just white instead of yellow.

May be that our locations and cultures are very different. Twenty-two years of teaching public high school in Memphis is what I can relate to, based my opinion on. Our white kids would never put one of those in their mouth. Gold grills = Northside gangs, Silver grills = Southside gangs. Midtown Gangs notch their hair and eyebrows. It must not be as simple as you see it.

Around here it is the Black young men and boys sporting the grills. Can't say I have seen in the Hispanics or Whites yet. But if like the drouping drawers and crooked caps they too will be adopted by those groups soon.
